CONSIDER HIS ARTWORKS-- Would you like to try your hand at his mirror writing or imitating his intricate sketches? Maybe you’d like to try recreating a famous painting with da Vinci’s own raw materials or chiaroscuro technique. Or you could use a different artistic medium such as watercolor, or even go digital with a camera or the computer. How about making the Mona Lisa into a jigsaw puzzle of large blocks? Or speaking of big, there’s always that huge bronze horse…
THINK ABOUT HIS SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGHS-- Maybe you’d like to set up an experiment that shows how one of his water projects or optical inventions worked. A display that checks if our body dimensions match those of his Vitruvian Man would be interesting. Or what about all the anatomy drawings he did—how might you show how they relate to modern knowledge of anatomy? (A student made a model of how our inner organs are arranged using small water balloons and bean bags!)
THEN THERE ARE HIS INVENTIONS-- Building a model of his flying machines, parachutes, military tanks and weapons—any of those would be a great project. It would be wonderful to see a model of da Vinci’s portable bridge, spiral staircase, or his Architectural Bridge in Norway. Maybe you’d like to create a replica of one or more of his many tools, such as a crane, saw, drill or pulleys. For a real challenge, you could even recreate a mini-version of Leonardo’s Robot or Mechanical Lion!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Choose something from an area that interests you. It does not have to be from the same area you researched for the 6Q’s. Don’t choose something just because it looks like an easy project to do; stretch yourself to create something of excellence. It should not require expensive materials; be creative and make an investment of effort with something simple.
WHAT SHOULD I TURN IN ONLINE FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT? 1. Give the title of Leonardo’s original work and explain what you plan to replicate or create. 2. Tell what materials you will need. Think through the project and make a list. 3. Give background information that we need to know about the original and include a large visual photo or graphic illustration of Leonardo's original work which inspired your replica.
(These are on the attached Google Doc that you are being asked to submit as an upload.)
